Cobb County Comprehensive Transportation Plan

Cobb County DOT initiated a 2-year investigation of current and future transportation conditions and potential system improvements extending to the Year 2020. ARCADIS is responsible for the assessment of two major subareas within the Cobb County Comprehensive Transportation Plan.

ARCADIS is also responsible for the assessment and development of alternative improvements from a countywide and intercounty perspective. This requires integrating all of the subarea investigations and focusing in on the major travel corridors within and to and from the county.

The current and anticipated transit, bicycle and pedestrian systems will be integrated into the plan. The study requires significant agency coordination and includes an extensive public involvement program.

The plan contains improvement recommendations that address countywide, intercounty, and regional needs. A series of local transportation studies have been conducted for each of the cities, major activity centers, and unicorporated areas of Cobb County as part of the planning process. For each of the subareas and from a countywide perspective, the existing roadway, transit, bicycle and pedestrian systems are being evaluated to better understand the type and magnitude of current deficiencies.

Based on future travel characteristics and traffic volumes generated by traffic simulation model, the Year 2020 conditions will be assessed and recommendations developed to address future accessibility, mobility, and safety needs from a balanced multimodal system standpoint.

The investigation will produce a Comprehensive Transportation Plan with a primary purpose to develop an integrated multimodal transportation system that will best serve travel demand over the next 25 years.
