MAKELAND®
The MAKELAND approach delivers an integrated, multidisciplinary service package created to address marginal land sites around the world—vast areas deemed not suitable for productive human use and that cannot sustain productive ecosystems.
ARCADIS’ utilizes a rational, systematic process that addresses science, engineering, habitat, legal, environmental, construction and economic considerations using an array of geotechnical and other site improvement techniques.
Our MAKELAND service package helps industrial and property development clients:
- Vitalize marginal land
- Capitalize on improvements to this land
- Meet corporate sustainability goals
- Turn liabilities into assets
- Expand the use of existing land, obviating the need for additional acquisition
- Consolidate contaminated/marginal land into a smaller footprint
Realizing potential, creating value
Land that has previously been considered unusable generally exhibits geotechnical engineering shortcomings, such as low bearing capacity and high compressibility, and may be contaminated, wet or flooded without supporting, productive wetlands. It is therefore considered to have diminished ecological and monetary value.
ARCADIS’ MAKELAND approach helps clients realize the latent potential of available land, simultaneously solving a land management problem while creating a new financial and/or environmental asset, especially when ecosystem improvement can offset other environmental liabilities.
